Piano Lesson & Kindermusik FAQ
Piano Lesson FAQ
Where do you teach piano?
Piano lessons are in Avalon, Sydney's Northern Beaches. For Sacred Heart Mona Vale Students I teach at the school during school hours.
Will you come to our place to give piano lessons?
Do you offer group piano lessons?
No. Everyone learns at their own pace. In one on one piano lessons, I am able to teach according to the individual.
Can I have piano lessons with my child?
I have tried this on request in the past, and quickly realised that it is not an ideal approach. Separate lessons allow parent and child to learn at their own pace.
Can I get a Gift Certificate for piano lessons?
At this time I'm not offering Gift Certificates.
If you can't fit me in at this time, can I go on a waiting list?
Yes. If I put you on the waiting list, I'll contact you when a time becomes available.
If my child has piano lessons with you at school, can I come to the lessons?
Yes. I always try to encourage parent's of younger children to attend lessons, but all parent's are welcome in lessons both at my home, and at the schools.
Will my child miss class time if they have piano lessons with you at school?
Yes, however, lessons only overlap a small portion of class time. The majority of all piano lessons are during lunch or after school.
What paths can I take after learning the basics of piano?
As students advance and have a strong base of musical knowledge and reading they are encouraged to choose their own path. Some of these options include:
- AMEB exams (Usually 'Piano For Leisure' Syllabus)
- Continuing with method books (Some children like to progress through the levels)
- Playing music from movies such as Disney, Star Wars, Mamma Mia etc
- Playing pop music (whatever they are inspired by, depending on level of difficulty)
- Playing anything that makes them happy!
Where are your Kindermusik classes held?
Kindermusik baby and toddler classes are held in Avalon, on Sydney's Northern Beaches.
Can I attend baby classes or toddler classes on a casual basis?
The primary focus of Kindermusik is to create a love of music and learning in babies and toddlers not just during class, but also in the home. Unlike many other baby and toddler programs, Kindermusik provides the facility to do so with our wonderful 'At home' materials. Without the consistency of song during class and at home each week, the benefits of our program don't reach their full potential. This is why we don't offer a casual rate. Please feel free to register for a free trial class if you are still unsure about enrolling.
How many babies or toddlers are in each class?
A minimum of 5 children are needed for a class to go ahead. Maximum capacity is 11 children.
What if my child doesn't participate in class activities?
It is not uncommon for a baby or toddler to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. Don't be discouraged - what a child is absorbing in class is often shown in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class activities. The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth. We recommend attending at least 5 classes to realise the full benefits of Kindermusik.
Do I need to sing in class?
There is no pressure to sing during Kindermusik. However, studies show that your voice (no matter how musical) is the most important sound for your child to listen to and is beneficial to their overall development.
Can I enrol at any time?
Yes. We will always do a pro rata rate for late enrolments. The 'At Home' materials must always be purchased at the time of enrolment to receive the full Kindermusik experience at home.
Am I able to bring an older/younger sibling to class?
During Sing & Play and Wiggle & Grow classes, it is important to maintain the bonding time between you and your child. We can only accommodate non-enrolled siblings if they are content to stay in a capsule or pram. We will consider emergency exceptions.
How do I make payment?
Please proceed to 'Enrol Now' and fill out the enrolment form. I will then email you an invoice with details of how to pay.
Do you run toddler or baby classes on any other days?
No. Currently I only run classes on Thursday mornings. This may change at some stage in the future so please feel free to register your interest. You can also visit Kindermusik to find other Kindermusik educators on the northern beaches as they may run classes on other days.
